About The Artist
Hi! My name is April Preston. I am a wife, mother of two boys and two girls, a graphic designer, and as of recent—a watercolor artist. In 1998, I began art school and took 1 year of fine art classes (it was required). After that first year I told myself I wasn't good enough to be a fine art painter. Compared to everyone else, I wasn't. So I decided to go into graphic design. It just clicked and felt right. Design has given me so many opportunities. It was a great decision, especially financially. I loved my job too. I was able to be creative and get paid for it! I was able to put my husband through college and law school while supporting our family. My job allowed me to work from home with our children. I am so grateful for choosing graphic design! However, in the process I gave up painting all together. I found the computer and just stopped painting. I was married for almost 10 years before I picked up a brush again. In fact, my husband didn't even know I used to paint! It had been so long, and the fear of failure was my major road block. I was too afraid to try. I thought my talent had been buried under a bushel for too long. It was gone. Or so I thought. In 2012 I started painting again. I had some failures…but I just kept trying. Starting over. I was amazed that I hadn't forgotten how to paint! In 2014 I started painting regularly and began to document my progress on instagram. I could see my successes and my failures. I quickly learned my failures moved me forward. I was making progress and enjoying the process despite any failures along the way. I was failing forward. I am enjoying the roller coaster of the experience. After many late nights trying to perfect my craft, I would post my latest creations on instagram. Since then, many of my followers have asked for prints. This was shocking to me! Someone wants to buy my art? Amazing! And so, here I am….launching a new website with my OWN artwork. As a graphic designer, I usually commission artwork for my designs. This is unreal and humbling. Really. So thank you for stopping by. I am truly honored.
